Brian D. Barash, MD
Brian D. Barash, MD graduated with Honors from the University of Kansas with his undergraduate degree in Human Biology. After spending a year doing bench top research on Polycystic Kidney Disease, Dr. Barash confirmed that Medicine was his calling. He went on to complete medical school in 1995, also at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he graduated in the top of his class.
Due to a strong attraction to Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine, Dr. Barash completed his Adult Psychiatry training in 1998 in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Kansas, and after serving as Chief Resident at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, he then went on to finish a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2000. Dr. Barash is a Board-Certified Diplomate both in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
In 2008, Dr. Barash achieved his third Board Certification and Diplomate status in Addiction Medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and presently under the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM).
Dr. Barash and colleagues started Comprehensive Psychiatric Associates (CPA) in 1998 and since that time their practice has grown to be a stable fixture within the Kansas City community at-large. Doctors Barash, Young, Ulusarac, Karim, Ash and Trueblood, along with Mid-Level Practitioners Anderson and McCoy, as well as many talented Therapists continue to provide inpatient and outpatient care to patients of all ages and levels of complexity, maintaining a cutting-edge philosophy by constantly staying abreast of new and emerging neuroscience research. One way this is accomplished is through clinical research trial participation in collaboration with many Pharmaceutical companies as well as through University-based research.
Dr. Barash serves as Chief Medical Officer of the Kansas City market of Signature Behavioral Healthcare and has been instrumental in building out the hospital infrastructure over three campuses and multiple sites. Prior to Signature, Dr. Barash was instrumental in the development of Marillac Children’s Psychiatric Hospital where he spent 17 years with the organization as CMO and Attending Physician, until its acquisition by the University of Kansas.
Dr. Barash and colleagues work with mental health professionals including Therapists and Psychologists throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area as well as throughout the Country to provide collaborative care to their patients. Dr. Barash enjoys treating patients of all ages from the very young child to the mature adult. He and his colleagues welcome and value the opportunity to treat you and believe that they will earn your confidence and trust. They remain open to new patients either by self-referral or through a clinician generated referral.
