Patty McCoy graduated from the University of Kansas with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1985 and then with her Masters of Science in Nursing in 1994, also from the University of Kansas.
Patty worked as a Registered Nurse at the University of Kansas Medical Center from 1985 – 1992. Patty worked in the Adult Cardiology / General Medicine Unit and then in the Intensive Care Unit. Patty was the Nurse Educator/ Coordinator for the Diabetes Program at the University of Kansas from 1988-1989. She volunteered for the American Diabetes Association for a number of years and was the Juvenile Diabetes Camp Committee Chairman for two years.
In 1992 Patty moved from the Medical Unit to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit at The University of Kansas as she felt her true calling was to work with children and adolescents suffering from psychiatric disorders. Patty continued to work at the University of Kansas Medical Center while she completed her Masters in Nursing.
Upon receiving her Masters degree Patty obtained her Board Certification in Child & Adolescent Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Patty has worked in children's psychiatric hospitals, residential facilities and outpatient clinics establishing programs, assessing and diagnosing psychiatric disorders, providing medication management, providing individual and group psychotherapy and coordinating with therapists for continuity of patient care.
She is an active member in the America Psychiatric Nurses Association and at present is the chairman of the Advance Practice Steering Committee.
Patty is currently accepting new child and adolescent patients.
